| · | Clogged gutter and / or down spouts which allow rain water to come directly off the roof and collect near the outside base of the wall. |
| · | Down spout extensions being to short, depositing the rain water from the roof to close to the outside wall. |
| · | Poor drainage around the house thus causing water from neighboring lot to collect against the wall of your house. |
| · | Poor earth gradient immediately next to the outside walls for your house. The dirt next to your house is lower than it is 6 feet away from your house. |
| · | Make certain that all gutters are free from all debris such as leaves, sticks and the occasional wayward ball. Water should flow freely from anywhere on the roof to the down spout drains. Make certain all down spouts are not clogged. |
| · | All down spout extensions must extend a minimum of six feet from the outside wall of the house, and beyond any bordered landscaping features such flower gardens and shrubs. |
| · | Most important, if the ground near to your house is higher than immediately next to your house, all the rain water falling on that ground will flow down hill and settle next to your house. You must be certain that this water flows around your house rather than towards it. Decorative rock and other landscaping material doesn't count. Water will flow right through these materials. The hard packed dirt underneath the landscaping directly around your house must be higher than the dirt further out. |
